iOS 5 New Features - Not New at All

WWDC 2011 surely has attracted millions of eyes for Apple has announced several new products included Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5 and iCloud. One thing in particular is iOS 5, the next operating system that will power iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, iPod touch 3G and iPod 4G, and iPad 1 and iPad 2. Till now we didn't receive any news about the annoucement of any hardware like the hot rumored iPhone 4GS, so this WWDC 2011 is doomed to be imcomplete with only softwares. Though Apple said a few new features are added to iOS 5, but it seems that these features aren’t new at all.

1. Toast Notification

One of the worst designs of current iOS is the notification system. So it was no surprise that Apple has changed the notification system in iOS 5. Apple unveiled a new notification system that will place your notifications in the “Notification Center”, located at the top of the screen and the lock screen. Now you will be free of the pop up notice window which often interrupt your work. However, this isn’t new at all, for users can see this feature long ago in Android and windows Phone.

2. Twitter integration

Apple has finally leaned down to cooperate with other companies to integrate Twitter into iOS 5. But compare to Windows Phone which has already integrated with Facebook, Twitter and LinKedin, we have to say Apple needs to do more work.

3. Take photos from Lock screen

This is one of the classic examples of improving user experience when Windows Phone was newly born. Apple finally added this “new” feature to iOS 5. There will be a camera button on the lock screen for you to take a photo quickly without unlock the screen for those once in a lifetime moments.

4. Airplay

Windows Phone can easily support the DLNA technology developed by Sony and Microsoft. For example, on one LG device there is software called “Play To” which is actually the Airplay.

5. Keyboard

The iOS 5 provides you the option to split the keyboard on the iPad and thus makes typing easier. But Apple is one step behind Microsoft for this feature has previously been introduced to public with Windows 8 operating system.
