How to Convert Photo to DVD Slideshow on Linux

One of the great advantages of using Linux system beside the stability is the freeware. Usually if people choose Linux, the open-source operating system, which is free of charge, you can't expect them to pay for software using on Linux. For example, the most famous software on Windows computer – Microsoft Office – has its totally free alternatives on Linux, like OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice.

So today we will introduce another free program which is designed to convert your photos to stunning DVD slideshows. Imagination is a lightweight and powerful photo to DVD slideshow maker in GTK+2. Just download the source code and use apt, yum, pacman or other package manager to install it on your computer.

The latest version of Imagination is 3.0, released on 06/03/11 with HD export. Imagination now has 69 transition effects, support burn photo slideshow to DVD and export slideshow as OGV Theora/Vorbis, widescreen FLV video and 3GP for mobile phones.

Now run the program and click "Slideshow" > "Import Pictures" or click the "Add" button below to add your photos. You photos will be listed at the bottom and you can drag to change the order. The current image will be show at the left and the slide settings are at the right side.

You can specify a transition for each photo or select them all and add transitions to them all at once: either apply the same settings or click "Random" to let the program choose for you.

Then you can add background music in your photo slideshow. Press "Slideshow" > "Import Music" to load music files to Imagination.

When the settings are OK, click "Slideshow" > "Export" > "VOB (DVD video)" and select a location to save the output VOB files. Choose one "Television Format" – 4:3 or 16:9 – before you click "OK" to begin.

The imagination doesn't have DVD burner engine embedded so you should burn the output VOB files to DVD disc using DeVeDe or 2ManDVD later.

How to Create and Share Photo Slideshow on YouTube
