Someone wonders when the Chinese people are going to protest their lame government like the Egyptians? It seems like the Chinese people don't care about freedom and humans rights. They care about iPads and money.
It's not true, the Chinese are just waiting for a chance!
1. It's not true to say Chinese people don't care about freedom and human rights. More and more Chinese especially the educated like college students and graduates cares, but they still need the strength to gather.
2. For the ordinary lower class Chinese people, mostly the peasants. They are born in the 1960s or 1970s,when the exam system was paused. So most of them are illiterate, and they have to do the most dirty and heavy jobs for quite a long time a day. They don't have the ability (they may not recognize the Chinese Character) and time (they work so long a day, mostly more than 14 hours, from 8:00 AM to 22:00 PM). We cannot blame them.
3. One event happened in 1989 (June 4th) in mainland China has changed the country significantly. More than 1 million students then gathered on the famous Square in Peking for freedom and democracy, but the result affect the next 20 years: the troops and tanks went into the city and fired the civilians, hundreds of thousands of people were shot dead. The whole nation was afraid of government more since then.
4. After the Event, the government strengthened the pace to brainwash the people, especially the students. So most of the students, even though they have much more knowledge, they are just sheep to the government.
5. The Great Firewall makes the Chinese netizen unable to know the truth of the world. Like the 4th point, they are brainwash because all the public media in China are controlled by the government.
There are much more reasons, anyone can write a quite thick book out of this topic. I only want to say who will not care about freedom and human rights, and the Chinese people are no exceptions.
